Scope

Extension and refurbishment of the Grove Park Primary School in Chadwell Heath.

Greyline were engaged to build a stand-alone extension in the grounds of the Grove Park Primary School in Chadwell Heath. The new build project involved the construction of a single-storey, double height, 125m2  hall, which will have dual use as an educational facility (for dance, drama, music, assemblies) and as a community space. We also undertook minor alterations within the school to re-instate two classrooms.

The building comprises a steel frame with glulam timber roof trusses, combined with steel tie rods to provide structural stability. A series of six rooflights provide natural daylight, paired with aluminium windows and doors to the elevations. A glass canopy links the building to the existing school.

Internally, the open plan layout has a full height ceiling in the main hall with the glulam beams exposed.  Toilet and kitchen facilities were incorporated in to the build. The space includes interactive whiteboards and theatre style lighting.

Originally the site was a grassed area situated at the front of the school beside an existing car park. The school remained occupied throughout the works and close collaboration was required with the school management team and Headmistress to ensure works could be undertaken safely and considerately.
