Sara assists with reception duties, answering incoming calls for Greyline, and offers support to the core functions of the business, i.e., Business support, HR, Finance, H&S, Operations, and Commercial through a variety of administrative based duties.

Sara has been allocated a dedicated Mentor at Greyline, to support her through her apprenticeship and ensure continuity of supervision during her placement.

Sara is currently completing her Business Administration Level 3 course with Harrow & Uxbridge College.

Statement from Sara:

“Working at Greyline thus far has given me an insight into what its like to run an ethical and forward-thinking business. I am grateful for this apprenticeship opportunity as I believe it has enabled me to develop new skills and have a wider perspective on a business front. My colleagues are extremely helpful which has made my journey up until now delightful. Greyline ensures a well prepared and successful future for all their apprentices, and I look forward to bringing about a positive change to the company and excelling in my role here as Business Administrator.”

Matilda Brennan successfully carried out a 6-week work experience placement with Greyline, starting in July 2021, until the end of August 2021. Matilda joined the team in the capacity of an ‘Administrator/Receptionist’ and assisted the core functions of the business with administrative related duties. Matilda proved to be an asset to the company, and it was a pleasure assisting her with acquiring the necessary work skills which she can apply in future employment.

Statement from Matilda:

“I have really enjoyed my work experience at Greyline. It has been beneficial gaining exposure to the construction industry, and I have learned a lot about the company.
During my placement, I have assisted with various admin tasks including scanning and filing paperwork, composing emails and letters, updating spreadsheets, answering the company phone, and redirecting calls appropriately.
I have felt well supported by every member of the team and have been overwhelmed by everyone’s welcome and kindness shown towards me.
Should there be a position available again next year I would be very happy to be considered. Thank you for everything!“

Career development

Harry joined in July 2019 as an Assistant Site Manager while studying at Anglia Ruskin (Chelmsford) in BSc (Hons) Construction Management and is currently halfway through his 4th year of a 5-year part-time course. Throughout Harry’s time with Greyline he’s been provided with support, mentoring and guidance from a number of Greyline employees, this included site-based experience with senior site manager, Paul Darbinson.

Harry commented that:

“Working with Greyline has given me a greater awareness and experience of on-site construction activities, learning the importance of managing day-to-day health and safety on site and the quality of workmanship. Greyline have also provided me with the opportunity to attend various training courses to complete the Greyline Health & Safety passport to work, which have benefited my work and raised better awareness, by completing the following training courses: First Aid at Work, SMSTS, Asbestos Awareness, COSHH awareness, Sharps & Needles, Fire warden Training, working at heights, Manual handling, Safeguarding, and Equality & Diversity Training. These training opportunities have helped me develop a better understanding of how work activities can be improved and be compliant with the Construction regulations, this has also given me the confidence to be able to run my own project in the near future. With Greyline’s continuous support of my career and personal development I am on course to achieve my ambitions within the construction industry.”

In January 2020, Harry joined the site team to assist with the completion of a multi-million social housing project in Greenwich.
