Greyline have now completed eleven library refurbishments for the London Borough of Hillingdon

Greyline have now completed the £2 million, two-year, refurbishment programme of eleven libraries across the London Borough of Hillingdon, with the recently completed Eastcote Library in July 2021 completing the contract on time and to budget.

The library refurbishment works were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in April 2020, which resulted in a 5-month delay to the contract term. However, Greyline resumed work applying strict Covid-19 site restrictions to ensure the works continued safely and in line with government Covid-19 guidelines and good practice.

The eleven upgraded libraries include refurbished reception areas, offices, welfare facilities and cafes, state-of-the-art IT facilities were installed with Wi-Fi, a new layout for the Children’s area and improved disabled access, enhanced book stocks and community facilities.

The new look interiors, which are predominately open plan, were comprehensively designed to incorporate consistent distinct zones, within each library, highlighting that each library space has a different use. The zones have been created by applying the use of a varied colour palette of pinks, blues, greys and a warm white, whilst using contrasting materials and features, such as carpets, vinyl flooring, to different types of lighting, slatted timber, and acoustic panels.

Cllr Ray Puddifoot, who stated: “Ruislip Manor Library’s new-look is fantastic, and I hope that local residents and the wider community enjoy the newly revitalised space.”
